Cowboys and Aliens

Hello readers who are apparently bored... Or, you just really enjoy my blog. Either way you're here and that's all that matters. Anywho, enough small talk. Cowboys and Aliens was released this passed weekend and naturally I went and saw it. So lets just do the thing, shall we?

Lets start with a brief overview... Cowboys and Aliens pretty much sums up what we'll be talking about. The movie is set in a mining town that couldn't find enough gold so the only real source of income is cattle and such... Yadda, Yadda, Yadda, aliens start taking folks and they have to find their people before its to late. Boom, roasted.

As we talk about this Sci-Fi western, we're going to break down the good, the bad, and the ugly. (Pun... Oh, I love movie jokes) I was incredibly excited about this movie ever since the first preview. Mainly because its a movie called Cowboys and Aliens, and the wonderful people who were involved. Lets list off who is apart of this summer gloriousness... Director is Jon Favreau, who has never has made a bad movie. Producers are Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer. All of which know how to create killer blockbuster movies. Actor Daniel Craig, who is awesome, and Harrison Ford who could quite possibly be my hero. There is not a solo actor more awesome. (What? more puns). Needless to say, with such a great crew they took an original idea and made an awesome movie.

I loved how they were able to keep a western feel of filming, such as the opening scene which is a classic western move, and at the same time tackle something ridiculous like an alien movie. There is a story of redemption which is a classic western under tone all the way which to me was executed nicely. The Aliens in the movie have a good feel to where they're not too corny and reasonably intense. All of that to say that it is a beautiful blockbuster film... No Oscars, but I don't care. That's what winter time is for. Non entertaining films that George Clooney and Meryll Streep are in. ( I'm a hypocrite for that last joke because I actually heart Clooney)Anyway, I loved me some Cowboys and Aliens!

The bads of the movie list in the following... So I can't think of any. I'm sure that's my emotions talking so don't be reading in a judging tone. I'm sure if I were to watch it again, which I will, I would be able to pick it apart, but that's neither here nor there. Just know that the movie is going to be a bit ridiculous and if you here people complaining about that, this is what I would say. "Its a movie called Cowboys and Aliens. (In a manner that made them sound stupid) Of course its going to be ridiculous... ridiculously awesome."

New Previews!

As excited as I am for the upcoming Captain America and Cowboys vs Aliens, I am just a little bit more excited for next year! The new Spiderman trailer and the new Dark Knight trailer were released! They both look incredible!

The Dark Knight Rises is going to be incredible and that is simply it. Christopher Nolan is awesome and is yet to make a bad movie. I don't think he is going to start the trend of crappy films with the conclusion of the Batman Trilogy. A lot of people aren't excited about Bane as the villian but I just say, "Thats ridiculous." Note that I say it in a mundane tone as if to hint I really couldn't care less about their opinion. As a Batman comic book fan I love that Bane is the villian because the movie "Batman and Robin" didn't give it justice at all. (Also, Clooney should forever be ashamed of that movie.) Bane is awesome, the new vamp of Batman is awesome, and the conclusion will be awesome! I rest my case.

The Amazing Spiderman trailor was aslo released! I would like to apologize upfront to this series. I hated the fact that Disney was taking it over! As a matter of fact I was spitting angry. ( I never actually spit but thats niether here nor there.) After watching the teaser I said to myself, "Touche." So congrats Disney on blowing my mind. I'm going to build this movie up in my mind for a year. If disney so dares to ruin it for me I will be forced to be upset for a day or two, write a mean twitter update, then go about my life and wait for the next Christopher Nolan film. All this to say I'm glad we're going to have a kick butt summer of 2012 seems how oscar season will be ruined by the end of the world or whatever.

Read my blog Saturday for the Captain America review! Oh and Mercy Movies, shame on you for not having a Midnight Showing of it. I'm very disappointed in you.

Experience Something Different!

What is up everybody? I know there will be like a total of 3 people reading this but I'll write it anyway...

Lets start off by saying, if you haven't seen any movies recently, watch Super 8 and Transformers 3! They are both awesome! Be looking forward to my reviews of Captain America and Cowboys and Aliens. Just so you know.

Experience Something Different! This is a sermon series I starteed in Invictus college ministry after I feel God inspired me to speak it. I am super excited for this series because of the pace and trends we will be setting. We came to the conclusion that following Jesus is something incredible and we need to recklessly seek after that relationship.

If you recall in the Book of Genesis there is a story about a man named Jacob who wrestled with God all night. God touched his hip and put it out of place. Jacob from then on out walked with a limp. I'm writing to this blog that no one will read because I know that as Jacob walked differently after God touched him, in the same way we have a chance to walk differently after a touch and an experience with God.

God has great plans for you! He has a love like no other. He provides peace and comfort unlike anyone else. If you seek out love and joy in something else you are chasing an imitation and you have been ripped off. God has something different than what the world can provide you. Let me tell you, What God has is better!

I encourage you, seek after God and you'll find him! Make it happen, experience something different from normal dumb mundane life.

Walk different forever!

What to expect!

Well well well, if it isn't my old friend blog. Its been a long time. I haven't entrusted you for awhile because you shared my secrets with the internet... real mature.

Anywho, I'm excited to start the blog back up! If you haven't read my blog before then this is what you can expect... Movie reviews and a lot of awesomeness! I suppose I will also do some spiritual stuff as well. But it is going to be awesome so tell your freinds about it! Or you can keep it to yourself and it can be your creepy little secret. Weirdy.

Well, good night blog. I love having fake conversations with you... Well, infomercial on a shirt that makes you look skinnier. That will work until you get a girl home. Then there will be a lot of shame and crying on both parties.

Its Been a while...

Well, its been a while since we have last talked to you blog. I haven't written in awhile simply because there hasn't been any good movies come out recently. Yeah, we the oscar season but I don't want to bore you. Side note, big suprise on Sandra Bullock taking the best actress. In the winter time there is a serious dry spot for movies. But we are coming into the summer and this gets me very excited! May usually is the kick off with a great comic book movie. This year we have Iron-Man 2! I was very pleased with Favreau's direction in the first and more than pleased with Robert Downey Jr. In number 2 we have Mickey Rourke as Wiplash. There is a power packed cast that also includes Gwenneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and yes Samuel L.

Also we have in may Robin Hood directed by Ridley Scott! This is going to be incredible. This film has a stunning cast led by Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett! Remember when Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott teamed up and they made Gladiator. That is my prediction for Robin Hood. Maybe not Best Picture but Freakin Awesome!

There is also Sex and the City 2! Yep, thats retarded. Matthew Broderick needs to take his wife(Sarah Jessica Parker) and say, don't be stupid, the world has seen enough Sex in the City...(Heck we've got reality T.V.)

For the kids and myself... Shrek! Shrek is a movie that continues to get better through out the sequals. Shrek the Third was incredible and I can't wait to see what they have put together for the fourth. Man, Mike Myers is the man.

Well Blog, its been real. I'm going to watch ong-Baak 2 Thai Warrior now. See you later.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes. In this rendition of the character Sherlock and his side kick Watson are trying to find the leader of a cult who has came back from the dead. With explosions, hand to hand combat, and Robert Downey Jr.'s charm and wit, the film was set up to be very entertaining. In fact it was entertaining and may I say awesome.

I am a fan of Robert Downey Jr, what he brings to the table every time he is in a movie, for some reason I love him. Jude Law is also a nice touch to this action comedy. Guy Richie (Director) is able to put a strange twist into an old fashion character that is a huge risk. Sure a lot of critics will say that he is stupid for making Holmes more violent but again, ts entertaining. The movie made me laugh, got me involved with the characters, and had me guessing throughout.

The bads in this film are as follows... It is a little over the top. I can't point to much out of it other than that. However we should all realize it will be over the top when Guy Richie gets a hold of it.

The moral issues... The swearing is almost not there. 1 D word and 2 hells taken wrongly. There are a few sexual innuendos and some suggestive material, (I've seen worse in a Disney cartoon) also there are some frightening images. This is why it is PG-13. There is a man that is caught on fire while he is still alive, you see a corpse in a coffin with maggots on his face, and you see a man hanging(To Death). The main Villian is someone who is practicing Black Magic and that is why he is wanted by the law. Holmes does a pagan ritual and has weird flashbacks(Later we find that he just recreated the ritual to find out where the next murder will be. I will say that you might get a check in your spirit if you watch it. I won't ruin the ending for you but if you watch it just know it is going to be OK.

As an overall film I give it a 7 out of 10 and as an action comedy a 8 out of 10.

Avatar

What to say, what to say. Let us start with the bads. The acting is terrible and so is the writing. I know James Cameron is talented as a writer because I just watched Titanic which was not corny and incredible. But there are some lines that make you shake your head and say, "That was stupid." The movie was super long and I don't think there was enough to keep your attention... at least not on the edge of your seat.

The Goods, Finally a 3-D movie that pleased me. If the story line sucked at keeping your attention the amazing graphics were sure to. After Pixar's lame attempts at 3-D, after watching Avatar you felt as you were in Heaven. Simply Mind Blowing!

My personal opinion, watch it in theatres in 3-D because it might not be worth watching with out the 3-D. My opinion as a Sci-Fi movie (It is no Terminator, also James Cameron) 7 out of 10. I did like the characters and the Native American influence of the Na-vi. But as an overall movie 6 out of 10. The acting and writing were just so terrible. That is why Sam Worthington (Jake Sully) has stuck to sci-fi, because to the sci-fi world he is good, to the rest of the world, he will only watch the Oscars on T.V. just like you and me.

Side note... There were about 5 S- Words, a few B- Words, and a few other minor obcsenities. There are a few parts where the natives pray to there Diety... Also some frightening images with monsters and stuff. Just so you know if you are thinking about taking the kids to it.

Final Statement, watch it in theatres and overlook the acting. The special effects were killer!
